Our farm is located in the remote hill country of Ritchie County, West Virginia. It was established in 2011 when, after years of working “city” jobs, we were finally able to make the big move to off-grid country-living. We’ve named our place “Almost Heaven Farms” after our love for John Denver and for the blessing of now being the stewards of 100 beautiful wooded acres. So far we have cleared about 3.5 acres which is dedicated to chemical free organic vegetable production and grazing area. We grow most of our own food with four seasons of harvesting from our extensive use of low tunnels and a large high tunnel that are managed by Keith (“Hired Hand”). Tunnels are unheated hoop structures covered with plastic or polyester fabric that provide season extending protection to crops.
We are ovo-lacto vegetarians and avoid eating all processed foods, especially foods that are genetically modified or grown using chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides. We love our many animals and have Dwarf Nigerian and Pygmy goats, Rhode Island Red and Silkie chickens, numerous guineas, and numerous other rescue pets. Most of our farm buddies provide us with valuable organic compost materials.
Our challenging goal is to make our farm into a sustainable homestead. To make ends meet we produce a number of healthy and chemical free foods that we sell through local farmers markets and on the web. We grow about 20 varieties of vegetables each year and offer these in limited volumes to discerning customers.
Kim (“Mountain Momma”) is an amazing food artisan, so we are able to share with our friends and customers handmade and healthy food creations. We make our products using 100% USDA certified organic ingredients. Most of our products are Vegan and Gluten-free and many are available in low-sodium and no salt versions. We currently offer: Dry Bean Soup Kits, Fully Tinctured Herb Infused Honeys, Herbal Tea Mixes, Hardy Granola Bars and Protein Bars, Flavored Hot Cocoa Mixes, Granola Cereals, Trail Mixes, Seasoning and Spice Mixes, Salad Dressing and Dip Mixes, Mulling Spices, Olive Oil Bread Dip Mixes, Apple Butters, Jams, and Jellies, and some seasonal items. We offer custom designed gift baskets and gift cards.
In 2011 we moved to Almost Heaven Farms to get back to nature and a closer relationship with God. We were motivated by our yearning for a simple country life, to get to a place where neighbors know and care for each other. This has not been an easy transition for us. We came here with limited resources and have discovered that starting up a farm in the woods on a shoestring budget is no easy task. We thank God every day for his love and guidance and for the numerous friends and neighbors who have helped us. We sincerely appreciate our many customers that we’ve met through the farmer markets, shows, festivals, and online who through their patronage and support have helped to make our simple lifestyle choice possible.
We’re happy to share our story in more detail for those who are dreaming of or considering such a life change. Please check out our facebook site at Mountain Momma Organics, or feel free to write, email or call us.
Sincerely Yours:
